Du Wei Huang, the famous Chinese painter, calligrapher and organizer, was born in Kaiping, Guangdong (Canton) in 1918. He attended the Guangzhou Municipal Academy of Fine Arts in 1935 and graduated from Shanghai Art College in 1940. In the same year his art works were exhibited in a Shanghai art exhibition with other local artists. From 1938 to 1947, Du Wei exhibited his art in the Cities of Kaiping, Jiangmen,  Luoyang, Xi'an, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.  He taught at the Sichuan Chengdu Min-Yun Academy of Art of Sichuan and Guangdong Provincial Arts College as an instructor, then an assistant professor. From 1950 to 1954, Du Wei was a professor at the Hua-Nan Academy of Art College.

In the early 1950s, Du Wei Huang joined the Chinese Artists Association. DU Wei, Xin Bo Huang, Na Wei Yang and other artists soon established the Guangdong(Canton) Branch of the Chinese Artists Association where he served as Deputy Secretary-General. Du Wei and the association helped preserve Guangdong Folk Art (Cantonese Folk Art)  and discovered many talented local folk artists. Today, Guangdong folk artists continue to innovate and flourish producing popular and collectable art work. Du Wei made an outstanding contribution to the Guangdong Folk Art community.

From the 50's to 60's Du Wei's art works were exhibited at the National Art Exhibition and in many countries around the world.

In the summer of 1966, the "Cultural Revolution" broke out and the Association was forced to stop activities. In 1968, Du Wei and the Association staff members were sent to the County of Yingde where they worked as farmers. In 1972 he returned to Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, and was appointed the team leader of the painting group of the Literary and Artistic Creation Association. In December 1977, the CPPCC Provincial Committee was approved by the Government of Guangdong Province. The Chinese Artists Association, Guangdong Branch, started up again and Du Wei was elected Vice-Chairman. In the same time, he was Vice President of the Guangdong Painting Institute.

From the early 1970s, Du Wei's diligence created a great many works of calligraphy and Chinese painting. 1979 to 1991 his calligraphy and painting were exhibited in Guangzhou, Nanjing, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, Australia, France and other regions and countries.

In l995, Du Wei's art was exhibited in the cities of Jiangmen and Guangzhou, celebrating his sixty years of art work.

Du Wei Huang's biography and art works are incorporated in the China Fine Arts Yearbook, Chinese New Literary Series, Chinese Artists, China Artists, China's National Painters  and other dictionaries and foreign literary celebrity portraits. His works are collected by the National Art Museum of China and many other museums and galleries.
